During a car accident, exceptionally high forces of acceleration can act upon the individual components of a vehicle door, potentially leading to improper opening of the door. While conventional safety measures outside of the locking system prevent the door latch from opening in the event of a crash, Kiekert, the leading international supplier of automotive locking systems, has developed a new kind of integrated safety solution. This unique technology incorporates a continuously active blocking mechanism integrated directly into the latch that reacts accordingly to provide a significant increase in safety. ‘Active Inertia’ reduces packaging space and weight, enabling a more lightweight system architecture in the vehicle door. The new high-tech locking system has already successfully passed extensive practical testing and was honored in July of this year at the ‘Dinner for Winner’ by magazine Automobil Produktion, German automotive industry association VDA and CLEPA.
